Fundrise – Real Estate Crowdfunding Start-up

Real estate can be an attractive investment, but, normally, this requires a significant amount of capital.  Founded in 2012, the Washington DC-based start-up company, Fundrise, seeks to address this issue and has recently been gaining momentum in the industry for both investors and real estate developers.

Fundrise facilitates real estate crowdfunding through its online investment platform that allows individuals to invest directly in commercial real estate projects of their choice based on location, asset type, and risk/return profile.  Their mission is to provide everyone with the ability to invest directly in commercial real estate which historically has only been available to wealthy individuals and large financial institutions.

Nearly 300 real estate developers have signed on with Fundrise over the past several months, including several projects in the Pacific Northwest.  It will be interesting to track whether this idea will gain traction.
